If elected, Tony pledges to work toward open, transparent and efficient operations of city government. He believes that one of the steps required in this process is to create an Open Data Policy that could include health and human services, crime statistics, demographic data, city budget expenditures, wifi hotspot locations, parking information, wet weather implementation plans, road conditions, conditions of our parks, and other aspects of local government most important to our neighbors. Tony believes that in order to hold our government accountable, we must make it easier for residents to understand and obtain data about city government operations. We must let our neighbors know how their tax dollars are being spent. Making data more accessible also opens the door for technological innovations and app development by any of Pittsburgh’s tech-savvy residents. By implementing an Open Data Policy, we have the opportunity to create a partnership between government departments and residents, increasing neighborhood engagement, improving efficiency of city services, and creating more opportunities for economic growth. There are currently over 40 municipalities across the country with open data policies, and Tony is eager to bring Pittsburgh into the fold.
