If only it had happened (#2) imagine if ... Having removed the slip bridge ... under the guise that maintenance was due, while many contend it was being removed as a requirement to avoid spoiling the view for the new flats on the site of the old Swansea Baths. The council have decided to be honest an admit they never had any intention of returning the Bridge to its position, and that the pacifier of putting it on the promenade and creating the ludicrous bridge to nowhere has been nothing but embarrassment. To rectify this the council has decided to return the arches under the steps once again to commercial use .... on the North (Victoria park) side the pair of arches will reopen as a modern coffee shop & cafe, with extended awnings front & rear to allow provision of extra tables during peak season. As has been done successfully done on many locations. The steps will be refurbished and reopened and on top of the steps will be an extended area, again with overhead awning for fixed tables & seats, to provide seated area for those that would like the extensive view of the bay while they have their refreshments. The top area would be expanded via cantilevered area, providing extra room for seating and installation of aesthetic safety balustrade. A dumb waiter facility will allow the delivery of orders from the Cafe to this top area. The Steps at the Southern side will also be refurbished, whereas once they housed deckchair rental & storage, this would become a shop selling cold drinks/snacks etc for beach & promenade users, but without the Cafe facility. Again the steps would be refurbished to provide access to an observation deck, which would enable clear unobstructed views of the bay, but without tables, having instead fixed perimeter benches, and no dumb waiter, the intent being solely for enjoying the view. There would be no awnings on this side of the road to avoid spoiling view for others. If only ....
