If we are to rise above the storms of this life, we must get out of the boat—look beyond the storms—and walk on the water toward Jesus. Our real struggle is to keep our eyes off ourselves, off others, and off the circumstances of the storm. Peter learned this very quickly, as he began to sink beneath the waves of his own personal fear and doubt! Our greatest dilemma, in the storms that threaten us, is not others or circumstances. The greatest danger we face is ourselves! This is especially true when we are in the grip of personal frustration and emotional distress. By God’s grace, may we learn to be free from anxiety when life becomes a raging storm. I know it may seem like we will drown. Our feet may get wet, but indeed, as we look to Jesus, His gentle and loving hand will draw us out of the depths of our own personal anxiety and frustration into the calm of His Presence. Because—The Lord will not let His children drown!
