If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what - TopicsExpress

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. John 15:7 John says that if I remain in God and His Words remains in me, then what I ask it will be done for me. A lot of times people take these verses about God answering prayer as a sign that all our wants and desires no matter what they are, they are ours for the asking. Now some might see it different but I believe John is saying that when we abide in God and His Word abides in us then the things that we desire will be only things that are pleasing too God. And therefore these things will be done. So many times we want things that are not of God. It does not have to be anything sinful either. See so many times we pray for things that we just don’t need. Don’t get me wrong I have prayed a time or 2 for things that I know I probably did not need. I have always pulled for NC State, and when you are a State fan you for sure will have prayed for them to win those close games. And in the grand scheme of things God probably does not care who wins the NCAA. Now is it wrong to pray for those types things? No I don’t think so, but I don’t think it is what John is saying. We have to be aware of the calling that God has on our life, and then we have to pray with that in mind. Abiding in Christ means that our Christian walk is the most important thing in our life. It means that our walk, our talk, and especially our actions are always led by the Holy Spirit. The thing that hurts us when we pray for things that please us instead of God when we don’t get what we want or God does not jump as fast as we think He should. We end up getting discouraged and our faith hits bottom. When we abide in Christ that is when we grow in Christ and our life reflects Christ. When we pray for things that pleases God we have to be patient and wait on God because when we wait He then gives us what we ask for or what we need. It is sort of like our children on their birthday and at Christmas and basically any other time. They want just about everything they see. And we as parents we know what our children need and what they don’t need. Take comfort in this God will give us what He knows we are in need of. When you are a mature Christian in other words a growing Christian we learn to be content and our prayers are about us bringing Glory to our Lord. What do you pray for? Your Christian life reflects your prayer life and your prayer life reflects your Christian life.
