We are seeing a record number of children removed in Palm Beach due to Abuse, Neglect or Abandonment. In August, 132 children were removed (this is triple the number from last August) July had 95 removals and September has not shown any signs of slowing down. We are in need of loving foster homes to care for the children who, through no fault of their own, find themselves in the foster care system. Currently, we have 50 children in shelter with 30 of them under the age of 12 Some of the children who have come in are: · A 4 month old baby was brought into care due to severe domestic violence. She had to go to a shelter due to a lack of foster homes. · Two 5 year olds started kindergarten while living in a shelter · 2 children ages 6 & 7 that had their birthdays in a shelter. There are very loving people working in shelters, but it’s not the same as a mom or a dad celebrating your birthday or helping you get your backpack on for the first day of school.
