If you need your faith in humanity restored, the Tailwaggers - TopicsExpress

If you need your faith in humanity restored, the Tailwaggers appeal for Buster has only been live since about 11am - yet already more than 45 people have donated and we are at 18% of the total. Sarah the girlfriend of the poor mans son has said: That is absolutely incredible. I am so unbelievably moved by everyones comments. and that was at 11.33.... so many lovely comments since then. justgiving/BusterTailwaggers Derek Rice was in hospital undergoing treatment for advanced cancer of the throat, tonsils, roof of the mouth and tongue. As you can imagine it is very invasive and a distressing time - for both Derek and his son, Ken. Ken and his girlfriend Sarah have been minding Derek’s Labrador while he was in hospital. Buster is a 10-year-old black Labrador. Buster had been a bit unsettled during the day but Sarah understandably had thought that he just that he was pining for his owner. On Friday night they had to rush him to the out-of-hours emergency vets. It turned out that he too had cancer and had to undergo emergency surgery to remove his spleen. It was all very distressing. Buster pulled through, but there was a massive and climbing bill of more than £3,000. Ken had assumed his dad had continued with Buster’s pet insurance so the essential life-saving surgery had gone ahead without hesitation. Unfortunately, it transpires it must have lapsed when Derek fell ill. Sarah and her partner Ken have no reserves and had no expectation of such an enormous vet bill. It is a thoroughly miserable situation. But even if they had known, how could they let Derek’s dog die when he is already so vulnerable in hospital? They have yet to tell Derek as he had just finished two days of chemo (whilst enduring radiotherapy every day for seven weeks) so they are worried about adding any more stress to his recovery. They know Derek doesnt have any money. They have put £1,000 of the bill on a credit card and still need to find the remainder. They asked the vets if they can have 30 days to see if they can raise the money, but this was refused. Tailwaggers Club Trust have agreed to make a donation to help in this very urgent case, but even with this offer when Sarah collected Buster she had to sign an agreement to say they will pay the bill in full within seven days. If she hadnt signed this they said they were not going to release Buster. She was also told that you dont go into a shop and expect not to have to pay for the goods. Tailwagger’s Club Trust have set up this Just Giving Page if you are able to ease their situation, even the smallest donation would show the family that other people care. Should more money be donated than is needed to solve this situation Tailwaggers Club Trust would use the excess funds to help other urgent cases.
