If you never read anything I write again please read this.Hunting season is in full swing, bucks are on their feet, birds are flying, you can feel it in the air. I also feel the most heart wrenching pain you can imagine. On October 22nd, 1988 I was the last person to ever look into my baby brothers eyes, right before he looked to the sky for the last time. Six of us had went bird hunting and were rushing to kill a woodcock that we had just flushed. I was seventeen and Aaron was fourteen. We didnt take fifteen seconds to come up with a plan. My brother is DEAD, shot because we screwed up . Fifteen seconds of planning was all it would have taken. Fifteen seconds and I wouldnt cry everyday when no one is watching, I wouldnt wake up every night scared, my kids could leave my sight without my constant worry, my mom could have lived her last twelve years happy, and my kids would have the best uncle ever. Plan your hunt, know where everyone is, wear a harness, take a kid to hunters ed, let the ones you love know it right now, treat people right, hold them tight, praise God for the blessings you have, honor those that have gone before us. Dont wait another second. Hunting accidents, I hate calling the accidents because they all can be prevented, are real. Dead is as real as it gets, it doesnt go away. When your very best friend dies it hurts forever. Do not let it happen, you can prevent it. I love you all, good luck and be safe. Please share this, not for me. For my brother, Aaron Christopher Thomas 01/14/1974 - 10/23/1988. If it keeps one of you safe , then his death wasnt in vain.
