If you see the mainstream media reporting the burning of an Australian flag consider this: Tonys conduct and the liberal parties in general have used dominant (doesnt mean correct) discourses and language to their advantage. The NT intervention was justified with appeals to emotion on children that have several dimensions of language and social constructions to assist in their agenda. There have been compromises made by indigenous groups to alleviate difficulties faced by communities (such as the intervention in the NT and the case of the Mulan people in WA), but these have been bent or ignored. On 14/11/2014 we saw Tony describe the land here in Australia as nothing but bush, now im not disregarding the meaning in our language of these words, in our language bush refers to shrubbage, water, land... you get it. But the way in which it was constructed was perceived as an attack on the Indigenous people and there has yet to be an apology or explanation made for this. This viewpoint Tony has can normalise the view of people that have not considered the social phenomena that is centred on current Indigenous affairs, it can normalise a western technological utopian view and can enable more narrow thinking peoples opinions of the Indigenous people as a people of the past that have yet to catch up with western techonolgies - looking at the environmental degradation which is rampant in western agrarian technologies is enough to put this theory into disrepute. These governing bodies are not sufficiently listening to the people, the G20 is a testament to this, were you told or given any plans as to how this would radically affect you? They wanted people to go into the city but they did very little to enable this. Did they hope that their imperial technocratic composure would give the population pride in being part of a highly protected city (a police state)? Tony and the libs have made these people mad! Theyve continually shit down their throats and normalised their ideology. Please dont jump to conclusions that the Indigenous people are out to destroy everything you love and care for - because the media have framed it this way in the past in the West Australian government and I wont put it past them in trying it again. They benefit in their destructive ideology by the accepting of their deception. You dont have to be an apologist or love them, just dont swallow the bullshit backwards thinkers feed you.
