If you torture the data long enough, it will confess to anything. - Ronald Coase Happy Boxing Day everyone! I just wanted to share something on my heart. There are many ideas and philosophies out there today all begging our attention as undeniable truth. More strictly, I am speaking within our Christian realm and sometimes even within our own group of friends/family. Scripture tells us that in these last days will come false teachers and many will twist scripture. I want to encourage everyone to study scripture for yourself diligently, so you will know how to discern right from wrong, truth from false, and God from man. **Just because someone can quote or point to the Bible to back up what they believe does not make it true**. As the above quote says, you can torture data long enough and make it say whatever you want it to. Scripture is Gods Word, but unless we have the true meaning of scripture, we dont have Gods Word. Lets not forget that Satan himself quoted scripture to back up his theology when he tempted Jesus in the desert. Recently I experienced this myself. A friend asked me some questions about a Biblical topic that someone else has been confusing him about. We spent time going through all the scriptures that dealt with the topic to discover what God was really saying. This friend then went back to said person to show them, and they took everything we had studied and twisted it to say another thing, some of it was even a very silly and obviously wrong interpretation. But this is what can happen. Whether the person is deceived or a deceiver, men can twist scripture to say what they want it to say and bring others down in the process. Study scripture, spend time in prayer and find an older man/woman who has a good reputation and is above reproach (1 Timothy 3) to mentor and guide you in your life and doctrine. The main tool Satan uses to deceive is in fact DECEPTION. Do not be deceived by a doctrine of demons (1 Timothy 4:1) Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers. (1 Timothy 4:16 ESV)
