If you want a body that can meet the demands of each - TopicsExpress

If you want a body that can meet the demands of each day, Macronutrient (fat, protein, carbs) imbalance is a bad idea. The current push is for low carbs and even lower carbs, so lets consider the following: Low carb dieting leads to reduced thyroid hormone activity, which lowers body temperature and the amount of calories we burn at rest (who wants that?). So at some point if you are already lean, you will start gaining fat and if you are already fat, you will find it impossible to lose any more weight. Low carb dieting leads to increased cortisol production. Carbs are useful for keeping the stress hormone cortisol in balance by providing an easy energy source for the body. When carbohydrate intake is really low, cortisol has to be released in order to free stored energy and provide glucose to keep you going. If our cortisol is elevated all the time, instead of naturally rising in the morning and falling throughout the day inflammation and adrenal fatigue set in, which will eventually lead to metabolism and energy problems. Extremes sell books and fill conferences. Balance sounds dull/boring but balance is what will give us successful bodies long term. *When I say carbs, I am speaking of Whole Food substance not the stuff that comes in boxes and bags and is mostly white or brown unless food coloring was added to it.
