If you want really to be challenged to think critically about race - TopicsExpress

If you want really to be challenged to think critically about race in America, I definitely recommend the documentary "The Pruitt-Igoe Myth" about the infamous St. Louis public housing development. A little disjointed at times, but this is in part due to the complex collection of issues that led to the failure to which there are no easy answers. One fact, though, that really can make one think that our government has been strategically malicious toward Black culture: post-WWII welfare regulations were written so that public housing was unavailable if an able-bodied man was in the household. So, in order that their families could live in a decent home, fathers left. One cannot help but wonder at the extent to which we are living with the cascading results of that first mass abandonment.
