If you weren’t watching C-SPAN last week, you might have missed the most entertaining show on TV...…During a House hearing into the government shutdown, South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy pinned down National Park Service director Jonathan Jarvis like a bug on a Styrofoam board. He demanded to know why leftwing Occupy Wall Street protesters were allowed to camp out illegally on a public park for 100 days without a single citation, while this month, veterans were barricaded out of their own World War II memorial on day one. Gowdy asked what regulation required that memorial to be barricaded? After a lot of evasion, Jarvis finally said the veterans would’ve been allowed in, like the protesters, if they’d just declared that they were exercising their First Amendment rights. Gowdy asked who they were supposed to declare it to, a barricade? All I can say is that it’s a good thing government workers are finally back, because when that was over, somebody needed to mop up under Director Jarvis’ chair.
