Ignorance is everywhere and has a firm grip in Remington, VA. The Fauquier Times did a very nice article on our store and honey products, well, it had a picture of me pulling a frame of bees out of a hive at the store. Soon....the phone calls evidentially started coming into the City Office from concerned citizens worried for themselves, children and grandchildren. There are no ordinances against bee hives in Remington, so at the moment they can only tell me of the concerns of the citizens. However, it was also mentioned that the subject was going to be brought up at the next council meeting. I can see the direction this is going to take. Am I going to fight it? Nope....Im just breaking down and moving the hives. This is not the first time the citizens have complained about bees.....seems many feared for their lives during the first bee delivery day we had at the store last year. Heres the thing....whether I have bees on the property or not, the first time someone is in their yard and gets stung by a wasp, yellow jacket even bitten by spider, we will be blamed. This is the mentality of certain people who refuse to educate themselves or listen to others. The funniest part of all, VBS not having hives will do absolutely nothing for the honey bee population in Remington. Remington is so small that 100s of homes are right outside the city limits.....at these homes that are less than a 1/4 mile away are many hives....close to 20 to 30 alone that I know of, expand out to 2 miles (easily within the bees flight distance) and that number goes way up. But....you know the old saying... Out of site, out of mind. I will concede for the sake of the business and PR purposes.
