Ill Be Home for Christmas recorded in 1943 by Bing Crosby was written to honor soldiers overseas who have longed to be home for Christmas, The song is sung from the point of view of an overseas soldier during WWII, writing a letter to his family. It was almost not released as the last line of the song was considered too sad. It was ultimately pitched to Bing Crosby who recorded it on the flip side of his White Christmas. Ill Be Home for Christmas has since gone on to become a Christmas standard. I think it is one of the saddest Christmas classics ever recorded.
