Ill always say that the greatest highlight across the thousands of miles is all of the fantastic people Im privileged to meet. Most of these people are totally new to me as they welcome me into their lives. Every so often, however, I bounce across the extra-sweet opportunity to catch up with a dear friend I havent seen in years, and this has come to pass here in New York. Friend of a dear friend, I met Gabi over a dozen years ago, during her first week here in the United States, fresh from Rio de Janeiro. She lives in the Seattle area, and outside nearly a year I spent in Seattle (six years ago), weve maintained contact across the many miles... Gabi is totally AWESOME, and the world can always turn to her for anything from sharing the best humor to razor-sharp analysis of various social phenomena occurring around us. Gabis visit to her grandmother here in NYC coincided perfectly with my time here. As Id been given an invitation for two to the local Churrascaria Plataforma-- a Brazilian BBQ style restaurant-- packed with some of the best salads and servers who come to your tables with swords full of sizzling meats, fresh from the fire, our timing seemed to work out all the more perfectly. As she and I met in person within a week of 9/11, we then teamed up to visit the WTC Memorial for the first time. How wonderful to hear about her son, her lifes updates, and to simply be able to spend the time catching up with a beloved friend from across many years and the miles... :D !!!
