Ill likely get flak for saying this, but for the 1st time in Juno history I was able to sit through the whole thing (without thinking wtf???). I was quite surprised by how talented Serena Ryder was. Great voice and sophisticated song writing. I never hear that stuff as I can barely tolerate Canadian radio for more than a few minutes. Canada may be finally shedding this homegrown sound that weve been bombarding the airwaves with for the past few decades. Sorry Tragically Hip, 5440, Bare Naked, Edwin (and you can name the rest) etc...Im talking about you. Not that I didnt enjoy any of what they did...but enough already. Now we have Arcade Fire, Teegan and Sarah and...*sigh* Bieber who we all know is not un-talented...but is def hated as much as he is loved. Grow up dude. My friends in Hedley must be between records as theyre usually nominated. Same for Drake Im guessing. BTO, you had some great songs...owned the 70s - a proud night for you indeed! But lets not forget Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Burton Cummings and the Guess Who. Legendary Canadian song writers who the world came to know and love. These folks were responsible for plenty of millions of record sales. Sarah is and always has been in a league of her own...was that Vince Jones on the other Piano...? The artists were showcasing are much more well rounded in my opinion and speak to an international audience (perhaps were finally in a post CanCon phase of our own music industry). Final thoughts. Although I thought Serena Ryder handled her double role as host and artist/nominee quite well, shes not a television personality and I feel the Junos always lacks that element. Sorry Classified never heard of you...but then I dont really listen to the radio. Not a great host. Im thinking television personalities like George Strombolopolus or Rick Mercer would have been better choices. Sorry cant think of any suitable host females aside from Jann Arden...shes pretty funny and no stranger to television. And...Drake...apparently cool enough for SNL but enough to host the Junos??? Maybe he was out of the price range. Nelly Furtado must be too expensive as well. No nominations and not hosting. Hip Hop youre finally getting represented...and so is Country! PS - Where the Metal??? Where the Electronic??? Isnt Deadmau5 selling a ton of downloads? We have Metallica doing a shout out to BTO, yet the Canadian Music Industry has NEVER backed or encouraged a Canadian answer to Metallica. How is there no Metal Band that can take to the airwaves of Canada? Korn, Metallica, Rage Againt the Machine, SoundGarden (cmon theyre more Black Sabbath than they are grunge. Many American metal acts have graced the airwaves of Canada...but NEVER a Canadian metal band. HOW? Finally, a quick shout out to Rush, whove already been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame by none other than Dave Grohl. No Canadian band has sold more records world wide than Rush.
