Im all for protecting someones religious liberty when it comes to the faith they choose and how they choose to practice it. I have concerns about this kind of legislation. I do want to point out good and bad points. Good: this bill is broad enough to cover all religions. Satanists and pagan religions are also given the same freedom. Bad: this is broad enough to cover all religions. The wording of the law is very broad in the sense that it protects the expression of faith. This could include verbal, written, or demonstrations. It in no way places limitations on how far it can be taken on school grounds. The language is broad enough that hate speech or bullying can easily be brought under the auspice of this protections. This is not only dangerous for gay students but also other non Christian religions. The law is broad enough that one student could completely denigrate an entire population with hateful demonstrations, speeches, etc and under the law they could not be touched. Good: I did like that the law does allow a student to answer God on a science test, but the teacher is not required to actually accept that as a correct answer.
