Im an exclusive pumper and my needs are probably going to be different than, say, someone who wants to be able to nurse one side while pumping the other, or someone who only pumps when at work, etc. But if I could wave my magic wand (because what pumper HASNT asked wanted to)... First, the boob/pump interface. What about something that adhered to my boob (maybe like the ostomy things) so that I didnt have to struggle to keep the flanges in place; then I would be able to pump hands-free without needing a separate pumping bra over my regular bra. And speaking of flanges...do I really need collection bottles dangling from my nipples? In my dream world, my milk travels through tubing into bottles that are -- ta da! -- in an insulated compartment in my pumping bag. I can either stick an ice pack in there if Im on the go, or plug the whole thing into a wall outlet or car adapter if I want to keep it cold that way. I also want my pump to be quiet and programmable...so that I can, say, set it to pump every 2.5 hrs for 15 minutes at a time, and I want to be able to set the stimulate cycle to come on every 5 minutes while Im pumping (because I know thats what I tend to need and it would be great not to have to press the button to make it happen)...but with a simple manual override should I want to toggle the stim/reg cycle, end a session early or lengthen one. If I had simple, pliable tubing attached to me via adhesive fittings and my pump programmed to start/stop on its own at pre-set intervals, maybe I could even figure out how to pump while I sleep! But then maybe I would need some kind of audible alert if my outbound line were occluded (like an iv) along with an auto-shut off to keep my milk from backing up to my boob if I were to say, roll over on the tubing in the middle of the night and sleep through the alarm.
