Im assuming youve all heard about Leelah Alcorn by now. I feel so - TopicsExpress

Im assuming youve all heard about Leelah Alcorn by now. I feel so incredibly fortunate that my experience has *not* been hers. There have been hiccups along my road, yes, but I am so very fortunate that I live in an environment surrounded by those who accept me, love me, care for me. Obviously its always the most difficult when it comes to family, and admittedly some members of mine took a while to come around. But theyve come to accept that this is who I choose to be, and support that. They may not *recognize* it fully yet; they may not see me personally as a woman; they may slip up to the wrong pronouns; etc... but theyre working on that, and they accept me, regardless, and support me. Moreover, from the get-go, Ive been surrounded by friends in a beautiful community of LGBT youth who have been nothing but embracing towards my gender, towards my womanhood. For every one asshole out there, there are 99 of you who see me not only for who I am, but find it to be a thing of beauty. I thank all of you for having you in my life, and my heart goes out to those like Leelah who dont; those transgender men and women and *people* less fortunate than I have been. Lets not let her death, and those of countless others, be in vain. We are *so* close. Our culture is evolving so much, and so quickly... but clearly not fast enough. Not if we still live in a world where this is commonplace. #leelahalcorn
