Working on my book today. I didnt expect for it to make me cry. I hope that is the healing I always hear about when you write your story! An excerpt about my Daddy.... Background: Our Dad was a life-long professional musician and had just suffered a massive stroke taking away his ability to speak, understand what was said to him and use of his right arm, right hand and right eye. When we brought Dad home from the Veteran’s Poly-Trauma Center in Palo Alto, we helped him in his own front door and he went straight to the piano. With tears in our eyes, we all looked at each other; waiting anxiously; anticipating; nervously holding out hope that he could play. God, let him play! This had been his worst fear come true. A musician losing his ability to play; to sing… He sat down at the piano and used his left hand to place his right hand on the keys. I remember him looking up at me with his soft blue eyes and slender face (having lost so much weight while recovering). He was scared. He wanted so badly to still be able to play. What must have been only a few seconds, seemed like an eternity as we all held back the tears and our breath… He looked down at his hands, placed his feet on the pedals… and out of that left hand came the most glorious boogey-woogey tempo I’d ever heard! He could play! His fingers stumbled a bit, but he was fast! But, then he stopped. He muttered a sound, looked up at us with tears running down his face and he again used his left hand to try to make his right hand play. He tried again; playing like a jukebox with his left hand, but that darn right hand wouldn’t move. Refusing to let him get discouraged, I sat down next to him and asked him to show me how to do it. He taught me and he’d show me over and over again. No words. Just mumbles and smiles and tears. And, no matter how often I’d practice, Dad was still faster! The bright side you ask… Too many to list really. Crazy as it may seem, there really were blessings chasing us down every day or we couldn’t have survived. God is THAT good. My daddy gave me so many gifts before he left for Heaven… On my 40th birthday, he took my hand in his, pulled me close and danced with me in my grandparent’s kitchen. I spun and we did the Swing, laughing…. My best birthday present ever! We shared our love of music at the piano. We spoke to each other from the heart, without words. We enjoyed every minute we had, nothing was wasted… We saw miracles together. We saw Jesus up close and very personal and we saw that He never once left our sides. We saw His face... We believe in miracles! - Excerpt from The 10 Most Powerful Things that Will Change Your Life! (Chapter 6: Believe in Miracles) - Kim Hoff, Rev2Rev
