Im at the TB&S merch booth before the show begins, right next to the REO merch booth, which is slammed with business. We sold a shirt, a vinyl, a poster and a sticker. But...I talked to those waiting in line for REO merch, and to those who purchased there: they passed our merch booth to get into the show. Hey, hows it going? Do you know this band? They are the opening band for REO. No? They play good ol rock n roll. Take a listen. And Ill see you after the set. And I did. Every single one. Tyler and the guys opened the show. The applause and attention was polite. The next song-strong applause. The introduction of the band song: everyone in the band showed their skills. Caleb walked out front and center with the big side drum and sticked his way through his part of the show. Tyler crashed on the kit, and I see Caleb look for something in the audience. The stage was elevated about 5 high. He jumps off, heads for a couple of scouted out empty seats in the second row, and proceeds to pull a Caleb. The crowd just wondered where he was. They were not in the know! Then those sticks staccatod on the back of a seat but not quite loud enough for all to hear- so the seat was much more satisfying in volume. The rows around leaned forward. The rows beyond wondered what was happening. They hushed. They heard. Caleb finished. He tossed out a stick to the crowd. The crowd roared and stood. Then they got used to the idea and kept responding. What began in polite attention, ended in appreciation. The crowd roared... And we met them at the merch booth. It was a good night in muggy Indiana, with REO Speedwagon.
