Im deeply saddened to hear of the death of the great Sheila - TopicsExpress

Im deeply saddened to hear of the death of the great Sheila Stewart today. An amazing singer who performed for royalty and US presidents, she was a tradition bearer of world importance and along with her extended family, provided a huge part of the foundation that contemporary Scottish music is built upon. Yet she was a prophet without honour in her homeland and it was a personal highlight of my working life to place her front and centre on a major Perthshire stage for the very first time at the age of almost 70 for my opening show at Perth Concert Hall and to ensure hers was the first voice to be heard in that space. She truly was The Last Of The Line and a treasure trove of Scottish culture also disappeared with her today. If you can spare a few minutes to watch this short but powerful documentary it would be a fitting tribute to this formidable artist. I also feel a more personal loss with her passing as my mother grew up next to the Stewarts in Rattray and that connection helped ensure a mutual respect that Sheila didnt always easily dispense and I was proud to consider her a friend. We were actually hoping to visit Sheila next year to try and unlock a little family mystery as she was possibly the only person with the knowledge to do so. Rest in peace, Sheila.
