Im going to assume that this page still has a few followers who are on the political left even though I know for a fact that a large portion of you (possibly a majority) are not on the political left. What kind of leftist are you? Anarchist? Communist? Socialist? Something more moderate than those three? Ill start: Im a fairly moderate leftist. Im probably closer to a social democrat (take note that the d is not capitalized) than anything else. I do not believe in revolution in most cases (the situation would have to be extremely bad to get me to support a violent revolution). With regard to private enterprise, I believe that most industries require some regulation for things like working conditions and honesty in advertising (among other things), but especially when a product is manufactured and sold, competition can increase quality. I support raising the minimum wage of the United States even though it will probably cause people to lose jobs and be replaced by computers. We are beginning a second Industrial Revolution with computer technology, and just as vast numbers of weavers lost their jobs to machines 200 years ago, many low-end service industry positions will disappear. What we must do is make sure that those people have the opportunity to learn the skills required to find a new job. I support a strong public education system of some sort. Almost all industries are starting to require people to have at least some level of education, so in order to have a workforce, we need an educated population. I am not a pacifist. War is always a bad thing, but sometimes, the alternative is worse (one example would be letting Hitler take over Europe). I have other opinions, these are just what came to mind off the top of my head. ~SC
