Im in a Texas state of mind today for some reason or other, and that means Tex-Mex. Thats to be expected. Every Texan gets the Tex-Mex urge, and if you live there, its easily resolved. If, like me though, youre part of the Texas diaspora, you cant just drive five or ten minutes to an excellent café. If youre a little further away, you have to learn to be discriminating. A few years ago on a trip to Paris, Leslie and I walked past a café that advertised Tex-Mex Authentique. Fearing the worst, we didnt go in. If youre 2500 miles away from the DonKey in Pasadena, Texas, then you need to learn how to cook it yourself. And yes, Im staking out a position here. The DonKey on Spencer Highway is the best Tex-Mex in Houston, Texas.
