Im no hoarder, but I have this possibly weird habit of holding - TopicsExpress

Im no hoarder, but I have this possibly weird habit of holding onto documents like old utility bills, car payment slips, rental agreements for studios I no longer work in, and credit card statements. Some of these, like the rental agreements and possibly car payments for cars I no longer own, I know I can shred and live happily. But things like old bills and credit card statements I have a harder time getting rid of. This comes from years and years of dealing with old tax problems from when I was in my 20s as well as other life events where one may be required to show documentation. I suspect its a safe idea to keep the last years bills or so, but is there any good reason to hold onto anything older? Can I trash this huge bin of paper and not regret it later? And along the same lines, how long do you keep old tax filings?
