Im not on Facebook a lot but I couldnt think of a better way to express the disgust Im feeling in connection with the tragic circumstances in Ballston Spa and the untimely death of Mr. Satre. Ive read pretty much every account of the incident and have had the privilege of offering my own perspective through WNYT, but it just seems like theres so much being left unsaid. Maybe this sums up the attitude Im seeing everywhere I turn... The Saratogian: Criminal and internal investigations are continuing, though no disciplinary action has been taken against the officers AS OF YET (emphasis added). AS OF YET... so far, Ive seen plenty of ignorant criticism offered but little or no support for the Officers who responded to the event with the intent of preserving order and keeping people safe. The ACLU has a lot to say, all negative regarding Taser use (The saratogian, 9/23/14)... but Ive yet to see any of them go through the training and certification that Police Officers are required to complete. It really shouldnt be about the financial compensation that the family of Mr. Satre is entitled to (Tully, Rinckey PLLC; The Saratogian, 9/22/14). Classy comment Mr. Persing... I welcome both contributors to take a tase, as our recruits are now expected to do as part of their basic training. I was not there. I do not know what the final outcome of the investigation will be. What I do know (absent unlikely evidence to the contrary) is that six public servants are dealing with the fact that they acted pursuant to their training and performed their duties with restraint and good judgement... but yet a life has been lost. These Officers have to live with the reality of that horrific experience... they did their job, they acted in full compliance with their training and, lets not lose sight of this... they maintained a response of less than lethal force, instead of escalating their actions to the next (and predictably life threatening) level of lethal force. Like it or not, and as offensive as the human reaction to a taser may be, the right choice was made... instantaneous and without the benefit of medical records and/or a tox screen. The responding officers deserve our respect, our appreciation and our thanks. I somewhat appreciate the medias position on this matter... after all, the common public response (when we have a chance to show our support of an Officers(s) actions) is usually less than useful... its under investigation... its a personnel matter. We dont help ourselves when we have the opportunity to do so and in the end we give the media nothing to work with. That all being said, the ignorant remarks by the haters on Facebook and web page comment space are venomous. Every station or publication has the right to control what appears on their site; its time to step up and support our protectors. We CAN do that with full sympathy to the family and friends of Daniel Satre. We MUST do that for the well being of those six Officers who made the decision to serve... and protect.
