Im not sure how many of them know.. Or why only a few notice.. And why there is absolutely no one who is willing to do anything about it.. In one of only two chartered universities in the country (correct me if Im wrong) Which receives billions of pesos in funding annually (correct me again if not right) And was once an ambitious social experiment to bring Christians, Lumads and Muslims together.. Which aspired to be the supra-regional university in the south.. People are murdered every year -- A student assistant goes missing -- is abducted and burned Someone hit by a stray bullet in an ambush A professor-- my friend -- is tied, shot, burned inside his house, our friend... A student shot dead Another student shot dead from the same province, in almost the same spot six months after And women raped.. I dont know how many of them And professors threatened for grades And nobody listens And only few talk about it And the President of the country says nothing -- when he appoints the president of the university No pressure for justice No leadership asked to account Sure, students have died or been raped in other universities too. It has happened in ULPB. But it isnt kept silent here. There, in that university I loved, people -- poor students and loyal public servants die -- and their loved ones keep quiet for fear And no justice is found Sure worse things have happened in other parts of the world But in this country? You mean Filipinos put up with that? You gotta be kidding me. I always thought --- Those are things which we do not turn away from To which we say Not in this country. Not in this country.
