Im not sure if xbox and iphone is on the same level as college - TopicsExpress

Im not sure if xbox and iphone is on the same level as college education... In NJ parents are required to pay for college education, apparently, if they have the means to do so. In MI if you live with your parents, youre not eligible for state aid because your parents are supposed to fund you. I think this is a family matter that shouldnt be tried in the court of public opinion. I think it spun out of control. I think the parents have a right to tell her they wont fund her schooling if shes repeatedly skipping school to hang out with a guy, or skipping school for any reason. I wouldnt expect my parents to fund my education if I was wasting it. I ran away from home twice. Once because I was trying to get away from my abusive father and I didnt want to put up with it anymore, but I went home the next day after my friends parents called my parents. Once because my mom was dating my step dad and wanted us to move to a new part of the state, I think, I dont remember exactly. I moved out twice after I turned 18. Once because my parents didnt support my decision to continue dating a man who went to jail. I wasnt asked to stop dating him or anything - I just wanted to be where I knew hed call so I could talk to him. The second time was because I was helping another friend with his bills and I lost my job. I was told if I wasnt going to be home at night then I might as well just not live there. That was my longest time being away from home until I moved to Michigan, because after being evicted from that apartment I moved in with Jacob, and then with my second mom Jennifer, and then home. Basically, life is about choices. I dont think someones mom calling them porky is necessarily abusive. I dont think telling someone to stop seeing a guy because hes a bad influence and causing her to throw away her education is abusive. I dont think expecting a teen to do chores around the house is abusive. My boyfriend worked on a goat farm for quite awhile. When he moved back to the states he got a job at Arbys, and then Walmart, and now Shape. He bought his own car and paid it off early. The college classes he took, he paid for himself. He has worked for everything he has. I dont think its a bad thing to expect a teen to learn job skills and clean up after themselves. I didnt have a real job until I was 18, but the job I had at 14 doing pony rides taught me very valuable skills I still use to this day. My history isnt as clean as my boyfriends, and Ive needed state help due to mistakes Ive made, but I wouldnt change that simply because its still valuable skills that I use to help other people. Neither him nor I have had a real rich life like it seems this girl has, being able to attend private school and an awesome college. Maybe its just a difference of class or something - but I dont think her parents should have to fund her education especially if shes just going to throw it away and miss class for any reason that doesnt involve some sort of illness or emergency. I never expected my parents to fund everything for me. They funded my horse collection hobby, and cosigned for my car and my first school loan. Im expected to pay it back to them, though, eventually.
