What do we do regarding Charters Towers Regional Council? 1. Write to Charters Towers Council [email protected] with the two main points A) Animal Cruelty: stress, physical harm, disorientation. Dependent young present for blacks: stressed frightened mothers and babies will get separated and die. Be firm and polite and say you are disgusted they have chosen this route on innocent animals who cannot defend themselves. PS: you may also want to ask what happened to funds and plans to establish a bat park as a long-term solution? 2. Write to Andrew Powell: [email protected] and [email protected] (electoral and ministerial emails) same 2 points. He will shrug this off. That is irrelevant. What is relevant is we do not want to give him any excuse down the track on any media soundbite that he did not know (ass-covering and traceable documented concerns). 3. Write to the Federal Environment Minister Greg Hunt [email protected] and shadow Mark Butler [email protected] these two may not have any jurisdiction with recent law changes, but hey – you’ve already written the letter – so same one to them. AKA: How can this Council in all good conscience embark on such a cruel action with babies who will slowly die terrified and alone. 4. Bombard the media (same points). ABC, CHs 7, 9, 10 (google has all the contact details), plus print media: Courier Mail couriermail.au/news/opinion/letter-to-the-editor and contact staff here couriermail.au/news/opinion/ourstaff and Sydney Morning Herald [email protected] AKA: How can this Council in all good conscience embark on such a cruel action with babies who will slowly die terrified and alone (insert some emotional adjectives here to the media only). 5. Share to everyone on social media and encourage them to write to all the above (just paste this email in if nothing else). Social media is immensely powerful, but only if used to spread the contact details. 60 people ‘liking your post’ alone is next to useless as you are talking to your friends (the converted). As an example of reach – the homeless and hungry poster went out to 28,000 people alone; all from just over 100 primary shares. 6. If it all goes ahead – document it with photos and video and get it out on the media (mainstream and social). the public MUST see this. PS: my understanding is that 2 previous helicopter applications over this town have been rejected by the Civil Aviation Authority as being too dangerous. That still leaves noise and water cannons though. We are all very busy, but we do not have to write a 3000 word essay: short, to the point, no personal attacks, and duplicate to all the above.
