Im really feeling the Tao release date on the horizon, today more than ever! Here is a little teaser from Chapter 10: “The Leaves of Fall collect where few care to look. This is where the wind stops after the swirl. It is also here the dog will find scent.” In the beginning, scent sources in difficult environs must be within easy grasp. For a young dog, an excessively long hunt for this will often produce trails other than those the handler might seek. These sources must not be “given” through presentation but rather learned by the dog itself and through natural selection. Therein lie the Dilemma and the Key to all things dog training: To teach without teaching, to assist without assisting. When the dog learns on its own, without help, or guidance, the lesson becomes hardwired. When the source is presented, the dog will always look to the handler for presentation because the handler became the solution.” I just got done with an amazing week of training with some very special people who lent themselves to great inspiration to all things trailing. Today is an off day for physical trailing but I am putting the finsihing touches on my fourth book: The Tao of Trailing. My publisher Grey Wolfe Publishing, LLC just finished the second set of edits and I am inserting some really great pics from Alis Dobler and Lynn Blackey Cobb today.
