Im reflecting this morning on the many friends and colleagues that I have met on my journey and thinking about the times we shared working or planning on different things, whether it be in school, employment, in church, ceremony, recreation, issues or just life in general. Sometimes our paths crossed just for a short while. Sometimes we crossed paths several times and sometimes we have stay connected throughout our whole journey. I might see a picture of you today and remember something that we laughed about or cried about. There may be even times that we argued or debated especially on political issues but that doesnt erase a relationship like it never existed. In fact some of the people that I had angry confrontations with at one time or another are now some of the people that I like the best. How boring would life be if we thought the same all the time. Sometimes you challenged me to grow. Sometimes I challenged you to grow. Its the relationship itself that I would like to remember. I remember thinking back when AIM first started pushing to stop celebrating Columbus Day. I thought they were a nuisance. That was thirty and forty years ago. I was naïve believing that he actually discovered America. Today I celebrate those people for their courage and for the foundation that they laid that we all grew on. I marvel when I see cities changing the name. I celebrate that we have actualized together. Its like Bob and I. We have strong disagreements all the time, but we have great respect and love for one another. We allow for the differences because we understand that we are not supposed to think just alike on all things. Sometimes we are each passionate on the subject we are disagreeing on.We never stop moving towards harmony...we just allow the time to bring us to it. I like facebook. I like that I can reflect on things. I like that I can add my voice to the world. I like that they can unfriend me if they dont like that voice and then friend me again. I like that it has connected me again to so many people. Sometimes even to those that I knew a whole lifetime ago in my childhood. I think it is a marvelous tool. Some of my friends disagree. They may have fear of it, who knows. All new technologies bring with it a whole new set of situations. Who ever thought the whole world could connect all at once. its much harder to get away with things because not much is done in the dark any longer. Facebook makes you manage many relationships all at once. Facebook allows all of us to debate issues and resolve them, too. Not just the political parties and those running for office. Its a tool for growth for all of us. It has its side effects just like all things do. It has a good side and bad side. Just like all of us do. I smile to myself at times when I hear people say, oh, I dont do facebook in a tone like I dont drink or smoke. I think to myself. Thats too bad..you sure are missing out.
