Im seeing a lot of negative posts after Election Day, and I find it a bit troubling. I think its perfectly fine to be disappointed that the person or bill you voted for didnt win, but to declare the loss a failure, shame, or step backward seems to me to be a sure-fire way to widen the gap. I believe it creates division, antagonism, and knee-jerk reactions instead of thoughtful dialogue. Maybe a better alternative would be to say, Im personally disappointed by the voting results, and heres why, so that those who voted differently may choose to listen and understand your point of view. I think thats how change happens.
