Im so excited--after nights and nights of tiny micros (and the occasional Gypsy Moth), Im thrilled to report a Catocala species! He had to be at least 50 mm wide with wings closed, wider with his underwings showing. Ive been puzzling over MPG and Bug Guide, and the closest match I can find is Catocala innubens, Betrothed Underwing. Can someone confirm/correct? Brunswick, ME. Woo hoo! The best/worst part: Im not even mothing tonight. He was under the porch light when we came back from a late night gelato run. I have a 75 watt (equivalent) CFL bulb in the porch light fixture. That settles it--Im relocating (again) to the other side of the house tomorrow night! (and Im getting a black light tomorrow!)
