Im sorry Im not so good at updates lately. Ive heard a lot of 7 months statements from Mike lately. Hes impatient about wanting his life back. Things like driving, dating, working, going to the gym... who would have thought? But unfortunately the brain and body need time to heal. Hes a miracle no doubt, but even miracles need time. The docs havent released him to drive, work, go to school or go on with his life quite yet... but they did increase his weight limit and approve light work outs. Hes still doing O/T with a goal of 20 hours per week (a lot of legos, card games and puzzles) hes very stressed out about finances and feels like a schlump, not being able to do any thing yet, and of course not affording his wants. :) On the subject of Traumatic Brain Injury, Mike is pretty sharp, when he tires you can notice delays and slurs and hes very quick to emotions...all just part of the process. For every day functionality hes an amazing miracle and doing better than ever expected. Physical aspects: #1 complaint is his back hurts (waiting on MRI since they have to supress metal and he had one in November its just a waiting game). There were cervical fractures that appear to be healing well, so we expect spinal as well. Luckily hes young. The shoulder is AMAZING! The wrist/hand not so much. Hes eager for repair surgery, but the docs want his body to work at its healing before they interfere any more. His abdominal scars look great, there is a slight hurnia thats an easy fix and theyll do a procedure to reduce risk of future hurniations later on. Life chugs along around here. Mike feels like 7 months is a lifetime while we all say its only been 7 months, it takes time... Hes been invited to Denver with his sponsor for the western market and hes excited for a trip away, but a little nervous about it too. Our days are pretty routine. I think it will be good for all of us. I will try to be better with updates. As you can imagine, we are just so grateful hes with us and even the obsticles are a blessing in some ways. We are ever so grateful for your prayers and support. Thank you.
