Im very excited to share that Spotify now has over 10 million paying subscribers and 40 million active users. A few years ago, when I met Daniel Ek Martin Lorentzon Shakil Khan and Sean Parker the company was far from a sure thing. Theyd built something great in Sweden, but no one was sure when licensing would permit the service to launch in the US and most folks in the music industry expressed skepticism at the prospect of the streaming models ascent. Im so proud of everyone at the company who has worked tirelessly towards this milestone. Theres still a long way to go, but Im confident that were past the point of no return, and that Spotifys success will usher in a new renaissance in global music culture. Getting music fans to pay again for the art they love is the critical development artists need to sustain their creativity, and Spotify is the lone significant force moving the World in this direction. Thanks to all of you who have helped spread the word over the years. And thanks to the Spotify team for allowing me to be a part of this awesome adventure!
