Im what youd call a loose fitting kind of dresser. I like clothes that leave breathing room, high in modesty, do not show boobs or buttcrack, and outfits that do not fit like a second layer of skin. This morning I discovered that all the jeans in my closet fitting the above criteria were either dirty, or had holes in them. I pulled out an old pair of Abercrombie skinny jeans (dont ask me how I own them, I have no idea, hand-me-downs I think) and squeezed myself into them. They fit the way theyre supposed to, I think, but theyre SO TIGHT. As I was buttoning my pants, my daughter came into the room, looked at my legs, and said (like kids do), MOMMY. YOU LOOK GIGANTIC IN THOSE JEANS. I just stood there for a second, then decided to ask a few questions before I freaked out. I do? What do you mean by that? She said, YOU LOOK SO TALL. Your legs are so long! Me: OH. Yes, they are. I thought you meant I looked fat. Then she laughed. Um no. Youre not fat. OH GOOD. Sometimes people say things that mean one thing, but the filters and insecurities we have about ourselves change what they ACTUALLY SAY into what we THINK they said. And then we get hurt. How about we dont do that anymore? What a waste of effort and emotion. Owning our lives means taking responsibility for our mental filters, too. Gitsum.
