Im with Shelley Lamb-Darnell in that Im ready to call it a night - TopicsExpress

Im with Shelley Lamb-Darnell in that Im ready to call it a night soon, but let me say my peace for Tuesday before I go: I know that everyones concern has been options. Where are the options? We only get to vote for this one option. Is this the best option? Will this option last? Is this what I want? Is it perfect? But as many stated over and over again at several meetings, this is not the first time Catlins board has had to bring up a solution. Consolidation talks have come and gone several times with the community always unwilling to hear, always willing to endure cuts. Never have I ever heard an uproar. Never have I heard such interest in the climate of our school. The education I received was not at the same academic level that my brother received just 5 years earlier because of the high turn-over rate of teachers at our high school. That rate continued within several of the departments. Cuts have happened. I did not hear much about the cut to the Ag department though I believe it was a huge blow to our High School. But once our board made the tough decision to pursue what they believe to be the best option, pour blood, sweat, and tears into it, I hear a lot. And its awesome. We should be this invested. But we need to be moving forward. We dont have the time or resources NOW to move backward. I know that all 300+ members of this forum either care deeply about the students or else want to be in on the gossip! Just know, whatever you care passionately about, and want for our district, you have to get 51% of voters to rally behind you! Westville is probably the 2nd most popular choice. Can we get 51% of Catlin voters to rally behind a deactivation of CHS to tuition our students to Westville? Im telling you, if I cant convince some of the elder generation to vote yes for consolidation because of their love of that high school, you will have a heck of a time asking them to dissolve it. Friends, it is time to take a look at what we can actually DO. What can we DO for our students? Not what we WANT to do because what I want to do is give them the world! I look at my second graders every day and want to offer them so MUCH! Lets do the most we CAN DO! And what I truly believe, as a resident of Catlin and as an educator there, is that we should give them our VOTE YES!
