Im writing this with a heavy heart, tears in my eyes & a frog in my throat!! & all I ask is that people take what Im about to say into account the next time you see a child/person with Down Syndrome or any other disability! So my son & I were sitting in the doctors office waiting to be called back. This lady is going out of her way to stare at us well specifically my son. Now, keep in mind that I have already come to terms with the fact that people will always stare at my son because his features are slightly different. Its okay, that doesnt bother me. & on top of that he is the most handsome stud in town so I get it. Moving forward, this lady turns to her daughter, says he looks sickly, I think hes a mongol & proceeds to stare at him. It took EVERYTHING & I do mean everything for me not to rip that ladys face the hell off for calling my son a mongol😤😤😤😤 I know I will always have to deal with some amount of ignorance because of my sons diagnosis and on the same note I wish people would really think before they speak. No hes not a mongol I understand back then when there wasnt a lot of research on Down syndrome people with downs were deemed mongoloids I get it, AND its 2014!!!!!! My son is A CHILD WITH DOWN SYNDROME not a Down Syndrome baby not a retard not a mongol or any other term he is a CHILD first! Down Syndrome is just a medical term for the extra 21st chromosome that he has it doesnt define him. So please to all my friends & family understand this when you see a person with Downs/a disability know that they are a person first and foremost. Their diagnosis is second. Thank you ❤️
