Imagine arriving in Philadelphia after competing for one of the top jobs in your field. You are put through a public beauty contest, forced to meet and present to many of the key stakeholders that support the position you are seeking in one way or another. Your competition is doing the same. You are required to be publicly accepted or rejected if you want the position. You have good meetings with City Council, key members of the General Assembly, the Mayor of the City all after having met with the people to whom you would directly report: The School Reform Commission. Everyone likes you, is very supportive, explains and clearly seems to understand the challenges you will be facing and, more or less, makes you believe you will have their support to do what is needed.
