Immaculate Shirts. The uniforms of the hall porters at Royal - TopicsExpress

Immaculate Shirts. The uniforms of the hall porters at Royal Naval College, Greenwich, blue trousers and jackets were not very different from naval officers uniforms. They also sported black ties and stiff collared shirts. We observed that their shirt fronts, collars and cuffs were always immaculately clean and sparkling white. We used to wonder how they were maintaining their uniforms so much better than we could, for all our laundrying and dry cleaning. I accidentally discovered their secret when I walked in to their office, when a porter was removing his jacket. Underneath his jacket, there were just two abbreviated cuffs, a stiff collar, a shirt front and a short stub of a tie. There was no shirt!. The shirt parts were all washable. With a jacket on, it looked as if he was wearing a stiff fronted dress shirt! This was the ultimate in business process reengineering, removing all non value added stuff!
