Immanuel, God is With Us. Joseph was understandably upset when he learned Mary was pregnant. He intended to divorce her. An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream to assure him that the pregnancy was of God and that Jesus would save his people from their sins. Joseph believed the angel and took Mary as his wife. Thus, the Old Testament prophecy was fulfilled: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us” (Matthew 1:18–25). God is near. Reach out to him. Call on the name Jesus. He wants a close relationship with you. Jesus Christ atoned for our sin when he lived a sinless life, died on the cross, and rose from the dead. Believe! Draw near to God. He will lavish you with love. Joseph believed God and so should we.
