Imoke asks aides contesting elections to resign Cross River State Governor Liyel Imoke has given members of his executive council who have intentions of running for any election in 2015 to resign before October 14. A source disclosed on Wednesday that the governor made his position known at an enlarged meeting with stakeholders of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party. The governor, it was learnt, also made it clear to aspirants to the governorship seat that he was not supporting of anyone and whoever was interested should go ahead and work hard for themselves. He warned that nobody should go about dropping his name in their governorship bid. The governor had, at various fora in recent times, emphasised that he had not anointed anyone despite strong rumours that he had one or two favourites among those jostling to succeed him next year. An All Progressives Congress Party chief in the state, Mr Okoi Obono-Obla, had faulted executive council members, who are nursing governorship ambitions but still sitting in office. Obon-Obla had said, “It is an incontrovertible fact that several Commissioners and Special Advisers in Governor Imoke’s government have declared interest in running for governorship on the platform of the PDP. “This is an open endorsement of indiscipline, confusion, infighting, and corruption by Governor Imoke in his government. It is a recipe for the collapse of the machinery of government in the State. “It is outrageous, deplorable and despicable for Commissioners and Special Advisers that nurse governorship ambition to continue to remain in office using public funds and resources to run their campaigns! The refusal or failure of these Commissioners and Special Advisers to resign is immoral and unacceptable.”
