Important CURRENT AFFAIRS : 29th August 2013. 1. National Sports Day is being celebrated today marking the birth anniversary of hockey legend Dhyan Chand. 2. To take the pressure off the rupee due to unrelenting demand for the dollar, the RBI has opened a special window to meet the entire daily dollar requirements of three public sector oil marketing companies. 3. The government has set up a 7-member Tax Administration Reform Commission (TARC) which will be headed by Parthasarathi Shome. 4. Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) has joined hands with Franchise India to provide financial support to emerging and established franchisors in India. 5. Human Resources Development Minister M M Pallam Raju today launched the Right to Education, RTE, anthem to make education for children interesting and friendly. 6. Bhutan’s Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay is to visit India from tomorrow till the 4th of September. This will be the maiden visit of Mr Tobgay on the invitation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after assuming the post of Prime Minister of Bhutan. 7. The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has sanctioned Rs 113.70 crore to Karnataka under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF). NABARD has also allocated Rs 900 crore for various rural and agricultural infrastructure projects in the state. 8. In an effort to boost forex inflows, the Finance Ministry has worked out a strategy for as many as 10 public sector entities to tap Sovereign Wealth Funds (SWFs) to raise at least Rs 15,000 crore in foreign currency. This will be part of a tax-free bond issue. This is the first time that such funds have been allowed to be part of a tax-free bond issue. 9. Brigalia Bam,former head of South Africa’s election body, received the prestigious Mahatma Gandhi International Award for Peace and Reconciliation recognizing her commitment to democracy. 10. Famous Pakistani brave girl and activist Malala Yusafzai who was shot in head by Taliban for campaigning for girls’ right to education, has won the prestigious International Children’s Peace Prize 2013. She is currently living in Britain where she was given life-saving treatment. 11. Kapil Parakh, an Indian-origin cardiologist working in Washington area, is among a dozen people chosen by the White House for its prestigious fellowship programme for 2013-14. 12. Using data collected by India’s Chandrayaan mission, NASA has detected magmatic water locked under the surface of the Moon. 13. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has received its third Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, a large,versatile military transport aircraft capable of carrying heavy, oversize loads long distances and landing on rough and unprepared surfaces. 14. Air India is to operate Boeing 787 to Japan. This follows clearance by the International Civil Aviation Organisation which has said that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation is fully capable of giving clearance for operations. 15. Wipro in partnership with Qatar Airways today announced the launch of a range of information technology products for the aviation industry. 16.
