In 1767, a mistake in the wording of a will, led to The Cross Cat Inn becoming the property, not of the human owner but of the black and white kitchen cat. Since then, there has always been a black and white cat in residence at the Inn. The sign of the Cross Cat Inn always depicts the current resident. Tiddles, Buster and Poppet are just three of the previous owners. Mittens (pictured below) is the current resident.
