In 1933, the Hugarian composer Rezső Seress wrote a song which went down to history as the Hungarian suicide song. The original name it was The end of the world, but finally went down to history as “Gloomy Sunday”. In 1935 the song was recorded in Hugarian and next year was recorded in English, although success came from the hand of Billie Holiday in the early 1940s. According to the legend, this song incites suicide, and not because it can be especially bad. In its lyrics, there are references to the end and death. The myth was born when the song was associated with a series of suicides, ranging from twenty to hundreds depending on the source, but it really is difficult to ascertain whether there really relationship between these events and the song. And personally, I do not think so. In any case, the legend of the song exists and its known, as I said, as the Hungarian suicide song. In 1968, in Hungary, Seress the composer, jumped through the window of his apartment and killed himself. In a final twist gloomy, the composer of Gloomy Sunday, Sunday dreary, committed suicide on Sunday.
