In 1965/1966 Laurinburg Institute of Laurinburg, North Carolina - TopicsExpress

In 1965/1966 Laurinburg Institute of Laurinburg, North Carolina produced 2 of the greatest basketball players, ready to skip college and go straight to the NBA. They would be Charlie Scott and Earl Manigault. Scotty could dribble stop and shoot before your eyes could blink. Earl cold cross half court to the corner, turn and drive to the basket, go past the basket, and slam dunk with his right hand just like Dr, J does in NBA commercials. During 1965 colleges were swarming laurinburg for C. Scott and THE GOAT. Lefty Dresell/ Davidson college courted C. Scott to sign.. Strings were pulled for exposure. Charlotte Coliseium held a double header one night. Laurinburg played Davidson College in the 1st game. Laurinburg lost. Earl was overlooked by major colleges nation wide because of his age and IQ status in May/ June 1965. In my opinion Earl Manigault was the greatest player ready to enter the NBA during 1965/1966. He went to J.C. Smith in Charlotte, N.C. However, 1 of the greatest civil rights accomplishments in history resulted in association with the UNC of N,C.. Charles Charlie Scott was the 1st African American chosen by Dean Smith to be drafted and to be on the roster of a UNIVERSITY of NORTH CAROLINA Basketball Squad. Earl is looking down for some time now saying congrats Scotty. Shout out to the College finals era of 2013/ JIM NANCE/ CBS revealing that Charles Charlie Scott became a part of history in 1966 by Dean Smith signing him to play for the UNIVERSITY of N.C. basketball team. C. Scott went on to win an NBA title with the Boston Celtics
