In 1971, philosopher Don Locke wrote a book on memory the preface - TopicsExpress

In 1971, philosopher Don Locke wrote a book on memory the preface of which admonishes that philosophers, unlike scientists, are interested in what memory consists in, so they should not be poking around brains and doing experiments, for they merely tells us how memory works, not what it is. Apparently, Descartes disagreed: My discussion of man in The World will be a littler fuller than I had intended for I have undertaken to explain all the main functions in man. I have already written of the vital functions...I am now dissecting the heads of various animals, so that I can explain what imagination, memory etc consist in. Letter to Mersenne, Nov or Dec 1632. ( ATI 263.) Thanks to Ewan Kingston for the quote!
