In 1978, I left Lucasfilm and went to work on Alien. Prior to leaving, Charlie Weber had been brought on as the new CEO. I didnt see eye to eye with Charlie about a lot of things. I still havent found out who packed up my office -- the people I thought did it tell me they didnt. Did Charlie order it? Hmmm I know Charlie didnt like me... Ive been interviewing people I worked with to fill in the gaps. Its slow -- I still have to clean the papers on the floor and get a working phone. -- but here is a tidbit After I left, Charlie did things like lease new Mercedes Benz for department heads and BMWs for their assistants. He also had a Lucasfilm gas pump put in which only Lucasfilm executives could use. This was after announcing that everyone at LFL was equal, regardless of their title and position, because Lucasfilm was a democratic company. During the gas crisis, you could only get gas on a certain day, depending on whether your license plate ended with an odd or even number so there were always long lines at the gas stations. Lower ranking employees were criticized for showing up late by bosses who used LFL pump. Despite the inevitable delays caused by gas station lines, they couldnt use the company pumps.
