In 1982, Indianapolis was court ordered to bus inner city children to suburban school. I was a new student myself that year to Perry Township schools and Perry Meridian Jr High. I had a funny accent, from another place and wasnt liked by the white kids either - so the children from Brightwood and i instantly clicked. All of the violence at first by the PARENTS of the white children and a few of the white kids, the politics aside and all other things that went on those first 2 years, aside: i am very glad that it occurred. I met some of the best people that i have ever met because of that decision by the courts. I still have life long friendships with those children: black, asian, latino & white. Friends who have become great parents, teachers, builders, business owners and politicians of our city. I know those children went through a lot daily JUST to get to the school and then struggle through the hate of them being there, to become who they are. I want to thank them for not giving up and going through it with me by their sides....i thank them and the courts for my friendships and for who they have become for all of you who dont even realize what they went through. I salute you all: those of us still alive and productive members of our society and those who have passed over the Years. Thank you my Perry Meridian Family.
