In 1984 Bruce Springsteen released his popular anthem, “Born in the USA”. It was delivered in the hedonistic spirit of the 1980s and protest spirit of the 1960s. In 1989 Oliver Stone released the movie “Born on the Fourth of July”. Cinematically it represented the same spirit of despair that Springsteen had musically envisioned. Both men end up in the land of hopelessness. Both leave Jesus completely out of the mix. It’s as if He never existed - as if He was completely irrelevant. They grasp the problem: the futility of war and its human cost. But they are clueless about the Answer. Jesus is the Answer - the One who brings hope to the hopeless and peace to the troubled. Our hope comes from God. Ditch the 80’s. Be “Born Again”. -- Friar Tuck’s Word of the Day
